The First Group partners with AAWAAZ Foundation on an ambitious mentorship initiative in India
As part of our continued commitment to creating brighter futures, The First Group has partnered with the Aawaaz Foundation on a transformative mentorship initiative based in India. United by a shared belief that no child’s potential should be limited by socio-economic challenges, this partnership focuses on supporting first-generation learners to succeed. The programme is funded by The First Group and managed by the Aawaaz Foundation, one of India’s leading educational support organisations. It pairs university students, known as TFG Mentors, with school-aged children from underprivileged communities.
Each mentor is carefully selected and trained to provide both academic guidance and emotional support, helping mentees build not only knowledge, but also confidence and creativity.
In its first year, The First Group funded 40 mentors and 80 mentees, building on its existing charity programme in India that delivers extensive educational funding and support to children in need across the country.

HOW IS THE MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME STRUCTURED?
The First Group is partnering with Aawaaz Foundation, one of India’s most respected private education providers, which is managing the operational aspects of the programme on TFG’s behalf. Aawaaz identifies and recruits mentors and mentees for the programme, and provides both parties with ongoing academic, co-curricular and emotional support.
HOW ARE MENTORS CHOSEN FOR THE PROGRAMME?
Mentors are chosen according to their relevant expertise, academic skillset and how they can positively impact the programme’s mentees. Each mentor is selected through a process of background checks, questionnaires and interviews to assess their suitability for the programme.
I AM INTERESTED IN BECOMING A MENTOR – WHAT TYPE OF SUPPORT CAN I EXPECT TO RECEIVE?
Aawaaz provides all mentors with a range of orientation and training sessions before meeting their mentees. These sessions concentrate on different teaching strategies, how to provide support to children, the roles and responsibility of the mentor, handling difficult situations and how to design a mentoring session.
